Doing Some Summer Taste Testing…

If you google things to do in Kansas City in the summer, you will get list upon list of what to do with your kids in the summer. That is awesome for parents… however, there are those of us that are kidless (or those that are looking for a night out kidless) that are looking for summer fun!  Here are some ideas to enjoy the summer weather with friends and a good drink.

Westport Block Party- Sunday, May 28th 2017, 8pm-2am

The Westport Block Party takes place in the streets of Westport. $10 gets you a koozie, your first beer and live music from Lost Wax (the $10 is absolutely worth it just for that!). Tickets can be purchased in advanced so that you can quickly enter through McCoy’s entrance. Grab some friends, enjoy some drinks, amazing live music, and hopefully beautiful summer weather.

Jazzoo- Friday, June 2nd 2017

If you are an animal lover, food lover and drink lover, then Jazzoo is for you! Help feed and care for more than 1,700 animals in the Kansas City Zoo’s largest annual fundraiser. Jazzoo has raised over half a million dollars every year since 2010! Join 5,000 of your closest friends, 250 volunteers and the animals for a night of sampling food from over 70 restaurants, enjoying some drinks and dancing to live music on 5 different stages.

Boulevardia Craft Beer Festival- June 16th & 17th

I attended Boulevardia it’s first year in 2015. I must say I was not overly impressed although I definitely still had fun. While I liked the concept, the follow through was not quite there. I was unable to attend in 2016, but I heard that it was MUCH better and that those that put on this large event had definitely learned a lot from the previous year. I definitely want to give it a try again this year.

Boulevardia is a two day beer, food and music festival. This year it will be held in The Stockyards District, which is one of the oldest areas of KC. If you have not been to that part of town, definitely check it out! Last year Boulevardia attracted people from 46 different states and I love that these visitors will get to see such an interesting and unique part of our city. Boulevardia is a large event, and the more prepared you are for it, the smoother your experience will be so make sure to check out their FAQ page.

Westport Beer Festival- Saturday, June 24th 2017 5-9pm

June definitely provides ample opportunity to be outside, enjoying friends and tasting some beer. The Westport Beer Festival is held on the streets of Westport and is $40 to get in ($35 in advance) and includes entry to the festival and a tasting glass. You are able to taste over 80 beers from 35 breweries, including local craft distilleries. A bonus add on is that members of Sporting KC will be there for pictures and autographs. I attended the Parkville Beer Fest this past weekend, and let’s just say we all can hope for much better weather for the Westport Beer Festival.

WeekEnder- Fridays, July 7th-August 4th 2017, Starting at 6pm

WeekEnder is a great way to finish off your work week, and is family friendly! Held at Crown Center on Fridays from July 7th to August 4th, you can enjoy local music, food trucks and a movie under the stars at 9pm. And the best part? It is FREE to attend.

Kansas City Wine Trail

It’s certainly no secret that I am a big winery fan. There is nothing I love more than a lazy weekend day at a beautiful winery. The KC Wine Trail can be done anytime, but the summer is the perfect time to explore! The trail is a partnership of 9 wineries that create a circle, which allows you to hop on and off it at any time. Visiting parts of it make for a perfect day trip, or you can make it a weekend and do the whole trail. Their website is full of information to help you plan your trip. I have visited several of the wineries on the trail, and hope to do more this summer. My faovrite of those I have visited was definitely Amigoni Urban Winery, which is in The Stockyards District in the West Bottoms. We had an awesome day date there, which happened to coincide with the air show, which was a great bonus.
